Welcome back to U3A Manningham for another exciting and eventful year.
I extend an especially warm welcome to our new members, who were officially greeted at the New Members Orientation on Friday 30 January. We hope you quickly feel at home and enjoy the wide range of learning and social experiences available.
To our continuing members, it is wonderful to see you back and thank you for the many ways you volunteer your time and expertise. Your contribution ensures U3AM continues to operate efficiently and seamlessly from one year to the next.
Looking ahead
Last year we made strong progress in planning for the future. Key initiatives included:
- actively promoting U3AM to increase membership
- documenting policies and procedures to support succession in positions of responsibility
- preparing for the transition from MyU3A to the new Member Wizard system.
These achievements were made possible by our Committee of Management and their subcommittees. I thank them all for the hours they have so generously put in to ensure that our strategic plans are on target.
Enrolments
Glitches in the MyU3A system raised concerns that online enrolment in 2026 courses might not be possible. Thanks to the persistence of Enrolment Manager Doug Wallace, supported by Warwick Wright and Tral Cash from the MyU3A tech team, these issues were resolved.
To give everyone a fair opportunity, enrolments were initially limited to 3 courses. The limit was lifted on 14 January. If anyone wishes to participate in additional courses, this is the time to enrol. We have several new and interactive courses, covering areas such as fitness, yoga, drama, financial literacy, genealogy, Italian culture, and exciting scientific themes. Some of these were introduced after our brochures were printed. I would urge members who wish to enrol in additional courses to check the website for a complete course list.
Summer School
Summer School in January 2026 was well subscribed. Programs were successfully run and thoroughly enjoyed by participants. My thanks to the Summer School Coordinators Liz Haylock and Don O’Gorman, along with our tutors, Office Manager Robyn Buttling and support staff.
Member Wizard
A key focus for 2026 will be preparing for the transition from MyU3A to Member Wizard. MyU3A has served us well for many years, thanks to Warwick Wright and his team. However, increasing system issues prompted the decision to move to a more modern member-focused platform.
A Member Wizard Project Team was established in 2025 to test the system and undertake initial training. Led by Neville Cook as Project Manager and Foong Sim Chin as Project Team Leader, their work will guide the development of user guides and training sessions during 2026. Thank you to Neville and Foong Sim and their team for this important work.

Hot weather
With so many hot summer days likely over the coming weeks, I would like to advise members that no classes will be held on declared days of Catastrophic Fire Danger. In addition, the bird watching and walking groups will be cancelled on days of Total Fire Ban.
Spread the word
U3AM has a positive impact on our physical, mental and social wellbeing. If you enjoy being part of our community, please help spread the word to others who may not be aware of our great not-for-profit organisation.
