Workshop for Migrant English Tutor Training

Do you have one hour a week to spare?

Do you like helping others?

If you answer “YES” to these questions, I urge you to consider enrolling in the U3A Migrant English tutoring course. The 6-week course commences on Thursday 6 February (first Thursday of Term 1) and will be held weekly from 1:30 pm to 4:20 pm in Room 13 at The Pines.

The areas covered in the workshop include:

  • Individual learning styles and learning as an adult
  • Tutoring strategies and session planning
  • Identifying the needs of the learner and recognising cultural differences and how these may influence communication.

At the end of the course, you will be asked to use your newly developed skills to assist a migrant in improving or obtaining oral English communication skills. A list will be provided from which you can choose the learner you think would be most suitable for you to tutor.

You can enrol online (MyU3A, click on Special Projects, Course Code 8840) or at the office.

I encourage you to join this course and do this very rewarding work.
