Over the Term 1 break, the U3AM wi-fi network was updated and improved. Tutors who need access as part of their class activities have had to connect to the new network.

It has come to the attention of management that many members who are not tutors have connected their devices (mainly mobile phones) to the new network. The U3AM wi-fi network is for the use of office staff, U3AM computers, and tutors’ personal computers while conducting their classes. It should not be seen as a free wi-fi hotspot for use by all.

If many members continually connect to the network, it will become overloaded, hampering the use of the wi-fi for classes. Even if a device is automatically connected, but not used, it promotes traffic on the network and therefore blockages.

If you are not a tutor with a legitimate need to access the network, but have acquired a password and managed to connect, please disconnect your devices from the network. This will enable our core business to be supported as intended.

Class representatives who wish access to mark the roll should use the tablets available from the office, which are specifically set up for this activity. Otherwise, they should use their own facilities.

Be aware that management has real-time oversight of all connections to the network and can permanently block any unauthorised connection if required. This is a drastic move that is not our preferred way ahead, as we know that members will abide by this request.
