The ultimate ‘hidden’ workout

We were exercising without even realising it – because we were having so much fun!

Our Strength Training Group D class, led by tutor Linda Beston, helps us build muscle, improve bone density, and boost metabolism and stamina. It also makes everyday tasks easier and reduces the risk of injury.

Our last class of 2025 was a day to remember (see photo above). Can you guess why we’re so relaxed and smiling, comfortably seated and facing each other but with everyone looking up? For a clue, see the photo below.

Instead of our usual strength training class, we enjoyed high-energy ball and balloon games. The room was filled with bright bouncing balloons, lots of laughter and plenty of cheerful chaos.

The day reminded us that strength training isn’t always about carrying weights and doing structured exercises. Sometimes it’s about agility, reaction time and simply having fun. A balloon popping with a loud bang brought an exciting end to a fun and surprisingly effective session.

Thank you to our class rep, Dorothy, for her help on the day, and to Margaret Dawdy for her enthusiastic cheering and encouragement.
