About the game

Skat is a traditional German card game. It is a 3-player trick-taking game with 32 cards. There are rules for bidding and playing that offer a large variety of combinations. The player who wins the bidding plays against the other 2 players. A typical round takes about 5 minutes and points are accrued for winning either as a solo player or as an opponent.

The course will teach the rules and tactics of the game. Skat is quite easy to learn. The bidding requires some basic multiplication, while the playing tactics require good memory and practice.

Every game presents a new challenge. Players can decide how many rounds they wish to play and the player with the highest number of points is the winner.

What participants will achieve

Beginners will learn the basic rules quickly and be able to start playing after a few lessons.

Experienced players can commence straight away and enjoy the challenge each round provides.

Skat is a very social game. Participants may also enjoy teaching it to friends and family to encourage shared activities.

Date and time

The Skat card game course will run in 2026 on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:50 am in Room 15 at The Pines Learning and Activity Centre.
