What
‘Whimsy’ is a fun new a cappella community singing group. A cappella style music only features voices. There is no instrumental accompaniment. Members are taught their respective parts by ear; no sheet music is used.
Class members will learn the importance of warm-up practice, well-known ‘rounds’, and contemporary songs arranged in 3 parts for lower, medium and higher voices (self-determined). They will then be brought together in joyful harmony.
Why
Numerous studies have been undertaken and articles written about the benefits of singing including this 2025 BBC online article, ‘Why singing is surprisingly good for your health’.
Over time, members will strengthen their vocal cords, increase singing range, improve memory for the songs being taught, raise confidence in singing in front of others and boost spirits.
‘Whimsy’ provides a weekly endorphin boost as members join voices in 3-part harmony, a cappella style. No auditions and no need to read music. But having a good ear and a song in your heart is a must!
