U3A Manningham supports the work of Doncare. Alyson Kennedy, Team Leader Social Support at Doncare has passed on the following information about an upcoming forum that may be of interest to members. Older people, family members, carers, community members, volunteers and professionals are all invited to attend.

Champions for Seniors is an innovative, community-based program for older (60+) Manningham residents that aims to prevent and respond to elder abuse through community education, awareness raising and a volunteer mentoring program to support older people experiencing or at risk of abuse.

Presented with support from Eastern Community Legal Centre, the forum will provide practical information about recognising and responding to elder abuse, understanding available support options, and exploring how communities can help older people feel safe, respected and connected.

Together, we can help raise awareness of elder abuse and create a community where older people feel safe, valued and supported.
