On Wednesday 24 April, the first of a series of singalong sessions was held at Roseville Retirement Village. It is a class, led by U3AM tutor Graeme Mills, where participants from U3A Manningham and Roseville share the enjoyment of singing along and even dancing to the songs of yesteryear.
As the following day would be ANZAC Day, the session commenced appropriately with old-time favourites like ‘It’s a Long Way to Tipperary’, ‘You Are My Sunshine’and ‘Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kitbag’. Then there were songs by Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Beach Boys, ABBA and more. Even though it was a cold and wet day, there was a big turn-up and the wintry conditions didn’t deter us from singing at the top of our voices and having a good time.
To cap off a warmly nostalgic event we had afternoon tea and ANZAC biscuits specially baked by U3AM member Ruth Foxwell.
This singalong class runs once a month, on the fourth Wednesday of each month. There are still spots for interested U3AM members to enrol.
